Blue Port Reporter app for iPhone and iPad

The WILDOCEANS Blue Port project consists of a group of young environmentally passionate people who clean the Durban port. The project includes progressive action towards reducing the amount of solid waste flowing into the port focusing on the key rivers and canals flowing into the port, and minimise the amount of plastic waste escaping the port into the ocean, by removing the waste building up in the port. The project’s ultimate goal is to establish the profile and reputation of Durban port, not only as the busiest port in Africa and premier destination for efficient shipping services, but also returning the Durban port ecosystem to a healthy, natural state.

The project will focus on key hotspot areas of both waste accumulation and entry points into the port, activating both land and water clean-up interventions that will ultimately impact the health of the Port system and consequently, the human systems that depend on a high-quality habitat.

The Blue port app has been created for port users/stakeholders to openly communicate in the port. The app serves as a platform for transparent reporting of waste accumulation, spills or other pollution events, to create a cooperative, well maintained resilient system benefiting all its users.
